Mini Update: Natalie Vintage Girl Returns

*

Hello There,

It has been quite a while since I posted on here and now that I finally have a computer again, I thought I could give you a small update before things get back to normal on the Quirky Vintage Blog.

So at the start of the year I was just being my typical lazy self. I hadn't updated for probably a month or so because I was so caught up in all my little hobbies and obsessions. When I went to move my laptop one night, the back of the screen busted open and it has been in the computer shop until yesterday when I finally got the call to go and collect it. The part that they needed to fix it had been on back order for quite some time.

To be honest with you all- I'm actually kind of glad my computer broke down. I didn't feel required to write anything for once, so I didn't feel guilty about not writing. I had a legitimate excuse not to write. My fingers actually itched for the keys a couple of times and I'm glad to say I actually have some new ideas for my blog.

I also don't know if I would have actually had much time to write anything, had my computer not been broken down, because I was involved in something political for a bit.

I would have loved to get stuck into some blog posts that I've been wanting to write, but it felt wrong to just start posting without giving an update first. That, and the fact that I'm too tired to write anything worthwhile tonight. For the past four nights I have been having strange dreams and waking up feeling really tired. They weren't really nightmares, but they definitely weren't "happy" dreams either...

So, what am I going to write now that I'm back? I was thinking a Beauty Favourites post for Summer is way overdue. I'd also like to catch up on some book reviews and beauty reviews. I've got some ideas for some Playlist Posts and for a new segment about some weird social observations that I have.

I look forward to writing these posts and catching up on some of my favourite blogs. I hope you all had a lovely Easter last weekend.

Mini-Update: The Point of Dancing

*

I love to dance, but I'm not a huge fan of some of the politics involved. Which is why I've decided to give up on Jiving and spend some time choreographing a jazz routine instead. I call it DIY dance class and it's turning out to be pretty fun. Tap dance class is a big maybe as I'm waiting for my teacher to get back to me on whether we have a class or not.

After hearing some of the discussion regarding dance schools in this town I think some people have completely forgotten the whole point of it all. I thought the point was to have fun, to enjoy the music, to learn new steps, stay fit  and to try your best. The most important part is to enjoy it, because it is a hobby after all.

I have been downloading some new Itunes songs and I've recently bought some new music that I'm enjoying mucking around with. Sometimes it's a bit surprising what music you can pair with certain styles. I love finding acoustic versions and remixes to dance to. I don't really have a reason to be making up a routine and I doubt I will be performing it for anyone. I'm just dancing because it's heaps of fun.

What is one of your favourite hobbies?

Pretty Please Check Out My Blog Darlings

Pretty Please Check Out My Blog Darlings by quirkichik on Polyvore

Hi guys,
I am totally buggin. You know how you finally get what you want, but some people are just out to wreck it and they won't give up? Well, I feel a little that way lately. I am also totally stressing over a few things I need to get finished and that I want to do. Even though I've scheduled so many posts for Facebook I can see my likes slowly dropping off. Please do yourselves a favor and check out The Facebook Page if you like what you see here. I try and post at least twice a day.

I am also a bit beauty crazed (still) to the point where I am waiting on new releases to make orders. Yes, I am curious about the new range of Velveteens on it's way and I am pro-longing my next order for 'Crush Cosmetics' until then. I just did another order for Sleek and I did an order for E.L.F the other day... I keep questioning whether I should change the status of this blog to "Beauty Blog", but then that wouldn't be right. It never has been a true "Book Blog" even though I have introduced it a few times that way. Books were the reason I started blogging, but I have never ever secluded my blog to just one subject and still my blog is the same. I've just prioritised the beauty aspect a little more is all.

Keep hanging in there guys. I've got some cool posts coming up soon I promise.

A Note on Imperfections

As much praise as you will get in this world there will always be an equal number of comments made about your imperfections. I'm not trying to be morbid, it's just that that's how it is. Even, if you are praised more, the voice in the back of your head that tells you you're not good enough will surely remind you of those times where you were less than "perfect" and those times where someone felt the need to point it out to you.  I haven't actually encountered too much of this lately, but it does pop up in my head from time to time and I just felt like I needed to write a post about it -just a short one- so I could remind people of a few things. (Those people probably won't see this, but putting something like this out into the universe has got to be good for someone...)

Everyone has imperfections. It's true. I hate to hear people say that they just love a certain celebrity and that said celebrity defines perfection, because it's not true. Celebrities wear make-up, they have gowns designed for them and they don't always know what they are talking about. Remember watching earlier Julia Stiles movies where she didn't have the most perfect teeth? And, notice now that it seems that she may have had dental work done? Now answer this, was she any less likable before? I would answer no. I liked her teeth. Imperfections make one human and honestly, they give people this quirky individuality that makes them, them.

Like every one else, I have imperfections. One of these being my teeth. They are not perfect teeth. They are small, close-together teeth and I get stuff stuck in them all the time. When I smile I show a large portion of my top gum. Overall, I am a little self conscious of my teeth. And, they aren't as bad as they used to be. When I was in primary school my bottom teeth were really crooked and I had to get a few removed. Mum  had considered getting me braces, but it would require a lot of teeth being removed, I would of had to have waited many years for my adult teeth to come through and then there would have been this large expense. I still get a few people ask me why I don't get braces and I think it's ridiculous. There is nothing critically wrong with my teeth, it's just "cosmetic". Am I supposed to just "fix" my teeth because people ask me to? And, then what do I do when people find another fault with me? Do I just keep altering myself until I reach perfection? No, I think that is unrealistic. So, if people persist on telling me that I need to fix my teeth I tell them about Julia Stiles and Kirsten Dunst. These are both beautiful women who at least started out their acting career with imperfect teeth.

The thing about imperfections is that you can do your best to distract people from your imperfection but highlighting your assets. You can have bad teeth and distract people from them by highlighting your eyes the way that a musician may avoid songs with high notes and show of their low range. Or you could care less wear bright lipstick the way that Courtney love might scream out the parts where the higher notes should be...

Winter Promises

Image source I pinned it from Jessica's Pinterest.

Hi guys,
It's nearly winter where I live (Australia) and that means that it's almost tights weather. Which means that I am really happy because I just adore tights and have a bit of a collection growing (some new ones). Along with tights winter promises other things.

For example, I've got a few promises of my own that I need to follow up on. A room I need to clean, a few posts I've been promising I will do, a few chords I have promised myself that I will learn to play a few movies I would like to watch (Some Marilyn Monroe perhaps).

Then there are a few promises from others like possible film watching events, a possible lead for my guitar pedal (like they should seriously come in the box with the pedal, I do not care if it costs me extra. It's so hard to find the correct adapter), possible review books (like I really need them).

This week I've had a terrible week. Well, not terrible terrible, no real tragedies, but it has just been backwards for most of the time. I would do something and realise I had done it wrong and then I would forget to fix it. I think it takes me about three attempts to do nearly anything this week. which is why it makes me happy that it is Friday and I can kick-back and relax (put on a movie maybe) and read till late at night in my snuggly warm bed.

How was your week? Is it cold where you live at the moment?

Putting On My Lipstick

Hi guys,
Here's another "mini update" for you all"! This week I got some of that pretty lipstick I was telling you about and it's all very beautiful and impressive. Different than expected, but still quite impressive. I've been doing a lot of this (^ what Elizabeth Taylor is doing) lately because of it and feel as if I have morphed into 100% beauty queen mode. I'm hoping to have at least one beauty review up this weekend, but as usual don't hold your breath!

I'm also drooling over this video which I saw just as I began to write this post. I don't think there is much that  Miss Del Rey could do to get on my bad side. Right now I am watching 'Sabrina' (the Audrey version) for like the fifth time since I started watching it. And, this afternoon I was alternating between youtube (old vids of Hole and Garbage performances to be specific) and my new guitar. If anyone has a an idea of any good chord or tab sites please let me know :)

I'm also contemplating twitter for the blog. Mainly because the likes of Courtney Love has twitter and I think that would be something I'd like to follow! Let me know what you think!

New and Shiny

Hi guys,
I'm trying this new thing where I do small update style things in between posts so you don't miss me too much between larger posts (lately I seem to just post on weekends) and where I can show you something cool or even give you a sneak peak at something I am working on. If you wish you can let me know what you think of this idea in the comments. I thought it might be handy for those who don't follow me on any other accounts.

Firstly, I just want to express my love for this picture right here (and anything to do with this film). I read this book in 2011? And, I loved it (okay I had a few issues with it, but they were minute issues) and I got really excited that Baz was making a film about it, because I absolutely adored Leo in 'Romeo and Juliet' and I then went on to right some posts about books influencing movie directors and then winding up on the catwalk like way before it hit vogue (I have blog post proof of this, but I cannot be bothered to fish for the post) and now everyone is like "Hey, nineteen twenties! cool" or at least the really trendy ones are. I love a good periord/era show/film where they can make yesteryear look so new and shiny. Anyway, what's even cooler is that Lana Del Rey got on the soundtrack. I love her music... There is also blogoriphic proof of this. If you haven't hear 'Young and Beautiful' I suggest you head over to soundcloud or youtube for a listen.

I also decided to get a bit brave and purchase some lipsticks that are a bit dearer than what I normally would buy (which I will hopefully review and haul on here), some pretty shiny things and some more expensive electrical - and one musical (though they are both purchased for musical purposes) - that may also make it onto the blog if they are successful. I also finally gave up on looking for shortcut chords (for when I'm playing my acoustic guitar) on the Internet and decided to purchase some books with a bit more theory to them. Who knows, maybe I can make up my own B chord.
