THE PLOT:
It's winter break at St Vladimir's, and a massive Strigoi vampire attack has put the school on high alert. This year's trip away from the academy to the wintery peaks of Idaho has suddenly become mandatory.
But Rose's troubles seem to follow her wherever she goes - dealing with the pain of knowing that her relationship with her tutor Dimitri can never be, things get even more complicated when one her closest friends admits his feelings for her.
The glittering winter landscape may create the illusion of safety but Rose - and her heart - are in more danger than she ever could have imagined...
MY THOUGHTS:
I was sooooo excited to read the next installment of Vampire Academy after talking to a friend about it online. I was looking forward to seeing more of Rose and her friends in action. Vampire Academy would have to be the worlds coolest boarding school. Seriously...
One thing that did bother me about this book was the little recap at the start. It's only the second book and you are already reminding me of what happened?! I happen to dislike when books do this and put "Chapter 1" above it. They should really put "recap" or "last time" to save me from reading it. I guess it's handy for those of you who haven't read the first book or who haven't read it in a while, but it makes me mad.
A good author writes in such a way that the reader can get caught up in the characters emotions. I don't think this is a sad story and yet I even got a little teary eyed at one point. At that time the character was just soo sad... I think Richelle Mead's lead character Rose is a perfect example of what a adolescent girl would be like vampire or no.
Another thing that I liked about the main character is that she is smart. She figures things out quickly. She is also naive to some point and doesn't always think first. in this way she is a very realistic teenager. This is where her age really becomes evident.
I definitely noted more sugar-coated human related topics installed in this book as I have noticed in 'Bloodlines' and 'Vampire Academy'. She includes things that are not relevant in other vampire stories due to the mortality of these vampires. I think it was very smart of her to write things in a setting where characters can in fact die, because it shows teenagers that they are not bullet proof.
This sequel is another one that definitely did not suck. 'Frostbite' was just as good as it's predecessor. I think I may have almost enjoyed it more if it weren't for the recap. Overall I think this book is worth 5 stars. Another favourite. I can't wait to see What happens next! This isn't a particularly large review, because great books speak for themselves.

Yeah, the recaps are always a bit annoying. But otherwise, still an awesome book :)
