Island in the sun: A Playlist

*

One of the ideas I came up with recently for a playlist blog post was to share my top ten favourite songs, Or the top ten songs I like to sing/play. Obviously, there would have been some overlaps between the two... Looking at a list of about 3 or 4 songs I realised that all of them had a bit of a summery or beachy feel.  If my favourite songs are really any indication or reflection of me, than apparently I want to run away to a beach on an island and sit in the sun. I then thought I would add some songs with similar themes, even though these aren't all favourites, there are not to many on this list that I would get tired of listening to on repeat.

To me the beach is a bit of a fantasy land. While I do live near several nice beaches, I hardly ever go. I am not the worlds, best swimmer and I don't tan at all (I just burn). The chilly weather that we have been experiencing this past week has definitely made me want to escape to some place warm and sandy. To think of the beach is to think of getting sand in your shoes, remembering to take two towels so you have one for drying and one to sit on, fun times with friends, feeling the sun on your skin, dreaming of mermaids, dancing in the waves, vintage swimsuits, portable music, cold drinks/ice creams, And, making use of those bright sunglasses with the super dark lenses.

I hope you enjoy the selection of songs I put together. Some tunes have darker themes than others and some of them are just a little bit silly. I ended up with twelve songs and I could have put more if I really wanted to go overboard, but I decided against it. I think this list might be a fun one for those gals living in the Northern Hemisphere to listen to at the beach, while gals in colder climates might like to listen and dream. Hopefully winter will be over soon enough and than maybe I might go down to a beach and sit by the edge of the sea...

You don't need no memory

Awesome list!!! There are a number of great songs that I specifically associate with the summer, too, many in no small part because that's when my parents most often played them as I was growing up. Some of my my top summer tunes include:

-Sitting on the Dock of the Bay (Otis Redding)

-Put The Lime In The Coconut (Harry Nilsson

-Stand by Me (Ben E. King)

-Hitchin A Ride (Vanity Fair)

-I Heard It Through the Grapevine (Marvin Gaye)

And just about anything (but especially Kokomo and California Girls) by the Beach Boys, amongst other great songs.

I think some Youtube music video watching is in order on the double! :)

Have a fabulous start of summer, dear gal!

I will :) when it is actually summer... I keep forgetting to mention that it's actually winter here at the moment. When you live in a coastal town, you just want for it to be warm most of the time. I think spring is the best for beach visits though. Our summers are a little too hot...
