Top Ten Tuesday: My Top Ten Favourite Fictional Fashion Moments

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by Broke and Bookish

As usual I am being a rebel and making my own theme. For this week's 'Top Ten Tuesday' post I've decided to write about my favourite outfits/garments as described in books. Obviously, things described in books aren't always definite; we won't all have the same image painted in our heads. And, I think that's what I like so much about fashion in fiction.

1. JUNIPER'S PEACH DRESS in 'The Distant Hours' by Kate Morton.
One of the things I really like about Kate Morton's novels are the descriptions. A good description can - almost- transport you to another place, and I could almost feel the crinkled peach coloured fabric on my fingertips when I read the description of the dress.

2. DOREEN'S DRESS in 'The Bell Jar' by Sylvia Plath
It's almost like I can't write a 'Top Ten Tuesday' without mentioning Miss Sylvia Plath. I thought Doreen's dress (from the beginning of the book) sounded like something Marilyn Monroe would have worn. Daring and Flattering. And, it just screams 1950s glamour.

3. LUCY'S PROM DRESS in 'My Name is Memory' by Ann Brashares
A purple lace dress, purple flowers in her hair, And a pair of shiny gold buckle-up shoes. It's a bit whimsy, but it's also quite old fashioned.

4. THE FURIES OUTFITS in 'Fury' by Elizabeth Miles
These three mythological babes had a bit of a red ribbon fetish going, and tended to wear things that were probably almost considered "Lolita". My favourite fashion moment would have to be when one of the furies goes into the woods wearing ankle boots, a cape and a little black dress.

5. CELIA'S AUDITION DRESS in 'The Night Circus' by Erin Morgenstern
I mainly liked it because in the audition she got it to change colour. WHICH IS AWESOME! And, I know it isn't really the dress that did it (it was her powers), but I liked the dress because of it. Wouldn't it be cool if a dress could actually do that?

6. VICTORIA'S WEDDING OUTFIT in 'The Language of Flowers' by Vanessa Diffenbaugh
She attends many weddings in the book (she's a florist), but for one of them she really bothers to make an effort. She gets her hair cut short and wears a white button up shirt (I can't remember if it was sleeveless) and nice black bottoms (can't remember if it was pants or a skirt). It think it sounded very simple and chic; very Coco Chanel.

7.SCHUYLER'S DANCE OUTFIT in 'Blue bloods' by Melissa de la Cruz
She reluctantly decides to go to the dance with her friend. Almost like a joke(her style is normally more bohemian), she decides to wear a puffy strapless dress, fake pearls and lace fingerless gloves. It sounds very Madonna and I think it would have been adorable.

8. BELLA SWAN'S PROM DRESS in 'Twilight' by Stephenie Meyer
I can't lie. It was a pretty good description. Who wouldn't like a dark blue ruffly dress (complete with french labels) to wear to their school prom?! I've heard a lot of complaints about the dress they used in the movie. Yes, I know it wasn't as low-cut or short, or didn't have a split up the side... I know she wasn't supposed to wear it with leggings, I know she wasn't supposed to wear flats....., but I liked it anyway. It was just a little more "PG".

9. AMY'S DINNER DRESS in 'Amy and Rogers Epic Detour' by Morgan Matson
This is at the part in the book where Amy's new friend (can't quite remember the name) that she met on the road, decides to swap some of her girly clothes with Amy's without letting her know. Amy gets a really nice light green (or maybe it was blue) dress out of it and even though it's probably a bit OTT decides to wear it to dinner anyway.

10.DAPHNE'S 1st VISIT TO EARTH OUTFIT 'Smoulder' by Brenna Yovanoff (Also, known as the 'Space Between')
It was a mixture of clothing items from different eras that Daphne had taken from the museum back at pandemonium. I thought it was funny that she chose certain items (like gloves) and that she got asked by a few people in the story if she was into Steampunk.

What was in your 'Top Ten Tuesday'?

Such a cute topic and wonderful list. I'm a little in love with the capital's fashions from Hunger Games myself.
