Top Ten Tuesday: My Top Ten Favourite Romances

Top Ten Tuesday is a Meme at The Broke and the Bookish

Today the 'Top Ten Tuesday' theme is "Realistic Romances" in books. I decided to be different this week (don't I always?) and decided to write about ten romances I liked so much that they ought to be real. I've never been in a relationship, so I'm not going to try and tell you what I think is realistic. Also, it is fiction.... why has it got to be realistic?

In no particular order.

1. MR DARCY and ELIZABETH BENNET in 'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen
Who doesn't like this romance? Even the anti-insta-love reviewers among us may possibly like it. Both characters are intelligible, a little snobby and a little faulty (like all humans are) that they suit each other perfectly. And, who doesn't like a relationship that bothers someone as snooty as old Lady Catherine?

2. CELIA and MARCO in 'The Night Circus' by Erin Morgenstern
I heard a lot of people say that this relationship progressed too slowly, but I think that's why I liked it. I liked all the intrigue and the drawn out excitement. Falling in love with the opponent in a contest seems like it should be forbidden, but it's inevitable. The characters were also very mysterious and individualistic. I heard that some people were also disappointed in these characters; that they thought Celia and Marco were non-relatable... I didn't have this issue. I thought the characters were a little mysterious, but I still felt emotions for them, probably more so because their feelings for each other are a large part of what we (the reader) know about them as characters.

3. JOSEY and ADAM in 'The Sugar Queen' by Sarah Addison Allen
Sarah Addison Allen writes pretty stories filled with legends, cliques, descriptions (of food mostly) and romances. One of my favourites would definitely have to be the romance that goes on between Josey and Adam (the  mail man). I didn't actually relate to Josey much because many of the things that affect her, don't really affect me, but I still thought it was a lovely romance. A great writer can make you understand something even if you don't relate to it...

4. IAN and WANDA in 'The Host' by Stephenie Meyer
A relationship built on personality rather than looks. Wanda is a parasite that can live in any human body and Ian is attracted to her regardless of what she looks like.

“It's not the face, but the expressions on it. It's not the voice, but what you say. It's not how you look in that body, but the thing you do with it. You are beautiful.” -Ian O'Shea, The Host

5. VIOLET and JAY in 'The Body Finder' by Kimberly Derting
I like the relationships in books where friends  become more than friends and 'The Body Finder' would have to be one of the best ones I've read so far.

6. CALEB and EVE in 'Eve' by Anna Carey
While it might seem a bit like every other damsel-in-distress book, I believe that the storyline of 'Eve' made sense because of the upbringing that Eve had. I think Caleb was smarter and probably more of a gentleman than most other saviours too.

7. SAMANTHA and JAKE in 'What I Didn't Say' by Keary Taylor
While I did say it was a bit cheesy in my review, 'What I Didn't Say' was definitely a touching story with a beautiful romance.

8. DEVLIN and ANI in 'Radiant Shadows' by Melissa Marr
'Radiant Shadows is my favourite book in the 'Wicked Lovely' Series because of that relationship. Devlin is so serious and Ani is hilarious.

9. DAPHNE and TRUMAN in 'Smoulder' (Also known as 'Space Between') by Brenna Yovanoff
Daphne is from the pandemonium and everything about the human world fascinates her including Truman.

10. ESMA and ESMA in 'Something in the World Called Love' by Sue Saliba
We all go on about how great Mr Darcy is or Edward Cullen is, but sometimes I think people forget that they should love themselves first. You might like someone, but no matter how great you think they are you shouldn't let them treat you badly. No matter how ugly or fat (or skinny) or weird you think you are, you should try to love yourself. If a person doesn't like you for who you are, then it's just not meant to be.

There are so many others I wanted to add, but couldn't!

What was your Top Ten?

I like your list and I love Ian and Wanda as well and you summed up perfectly why they're perfect for each other.

Awesome picks! I didn't even think of Violet & Jay from The Body Finder! I'm hoping to read The Host soon. I want to read it before the movie comes out. :) Thanks for sharing!

The only couple I've read about are Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth, and they would definitely make it... Or at least I hope that they'd make it!
